Gordon Miller Buehrig

 

     Gordon Miller Buehrig (1904 – 1990) was a noted automobile designer.
   He had early design experience with Packard, General Motors and Stutz. He became chief body
designer for Duesenberg, where he designed the Model J. He joined the Auburn Automobile Company of Auburn, Indiana in 1934, producing the famous 1935 851 Boattail Speedster.
He also designed the distinctive Cord 810/812.
   In 1949, Buehrig joined Ford, where his projects included the 1951 Victoria Coupe and the 1956 Continental Mark II. He invented the removable T-top, patented 1951. Retiring from Ford in 1965, Buehrig taught for five years at the Art Center College of Design in California. In 1979, he produced the design for the Buehrig Motor Car, a limited-production carriage roof coupe.

    Pracował dla firm Packard, General Motors i Stutz. Odpowiadał za design Duesenberga (Model J). Przeniósł się do Auburn Automobile Company, gdzie stworzył słynny model 851 Boattail Speedster. Zaprojektował także wyszukany model Corda, 810 i 812.
    W 1949 Buehrig podjał pracę w koncernie Forda. Jego dziełem są miedzy innymi Ford Crown Victoria i Continental Mark II 1956. To on już w 1951 roku wymyślił zdejmowany dach T-top (znany obecnie jako targa).
   W 1965 roku odszedł na emeryturę. Przez następne pięć lat nauczał designu w Art Center College of Design w Kalifornii. W 1979 roku projektował dla firmy Buehrig Motor Car limitowaną serię replik.
