Historic Overview:

Already on its second year, the GTX received a brand-new bodywork as the whole Belvedere range was completely restyled. There were non-functional vents on the hood with nameplates identifying the engine and new side tape stripes.

The GTX was also moved into a superior scale due to the introduction of the Road Runner, a budget sports model. While the Road Runner was only available as a pillared coupe, the GTX reimaned available as either a hardtop or a convertible, and now offering optional 4-speed transmission with a performance package at no extra cost.

Some of the luxury appearance features were standard wheel-lip moldings, tailpanel brightwork, and simulated wood-grain instrument and door panels. The 426 Hemi would remain as the toughest performance engine choice costing $564, consequently only 450 cars (414 hardtops and 36 convertibles) were fitted with it.
