Bill France Senior (1909 - 1992) was an American race car driver. He is best known for co-founding and managing NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing).
France began building a new 2.5 miles (4.0 km) superspeedway in 1956 to host what would become the new premiere event of the series – the Daytona 500. The event debuted in 1959, and has been the premiere event since.
