1981 Cadillac De Ville

Car Story

1981-84 Cadillac Coupe deVille wypatrzony w Bostonie w 2014 roku.

Idziemy więc dalej i... Bingo!

1981-84 Cadillac Coupe deVille spotted in Boston, MA, in 2014.

I’ve spotted this Cadillac in Boston, Jamaica Plain neighborhood.
Recognition of full-size Cadillacs from the 80’s is a real challenge, model years differ from each other only in small details so some help is needed - the best are vintage brochures.

As we look at the front of the vehicle (I didn’t do photo from the back), we see white parking lights (and directionals) with orange bulbs inside. We know that the production of so-looking Cadillacs started as a model year 1980. Models of 1980 have orange lenses, 81 and 82 the same, 83 – they are white! It gets warmer... but there’s a detail that doesn’t match, in "our" Cadillac there’s ornament attached to the lenses, which can not be seen in 1983. So we go ahead and... Bingo! Parking lights in brochure from 1984 are the same as ours! So our "CADU" is certainly not older than 1984.

Full-size models - structurally derived from 70’s, based on the frame and rear-wheel driven - were produced without major changes in appearance until 1992, but only as a 4-door limousine. The recipients were probably wealthy traditionalists - people of "old school" who were not very impressed by "modernity". The production version of the two-door model was discontinued for 1986. It's hard to determine the details of the 85 model, but it's rather not ours.

After such investigation, according to the best of our knowledge, we can write that our Cadillac from the photo is from 1984, but can we be sure?
What if someone wanted to cheat us and switched the lights? Some details do not match. There shouldn’t be symbol of the engine (HT4100) on the front fender of 84 model, and the "Cadillac" appears twice – it is also engraved on the top edge of the grill - this was not done by factory.

Should the real detective, let's say Sherlock Holmes, so easy surrender?
We know where we photographed the car and we go there again - but this time virtually. Car stands on the side of the house, on the driveway, in front of the garage, facing the street. Big Brother has done pictures less than a year ago.
And what do we see? The car seems to be the same, Big Brother has blurred license plate with half the front, but still enough is visible. If this is the same car, it turns out that a year ago it had a completely different grill! Such a grill like the 1981 model.

I think we have to surrender...
In conclusion, almost certainly it is not a 1985 model, and rather it is not a 1980 model, with no VIN we just can’t tell.
