1935 Duesenberg Mormon Meteor

Car Story

This is the car used very intensively by Ab Jenkins. He was a famous race driver who set many long distance and endurance automotive records. In 1934 Ab Jenkins was looking to better his 24 hour record, so with the support of E.L. Cord, a special Duesenberg was built. The car was later known as Duesenberg Special. Mormon Meteor. The body was very streamlined, so a single headlight was positioned below the radiator. The Duesenberg was tested and shipped to Salt Lake City, Utah. The next automotive record was bested, unfortunately the new record was short lived. In few next month Jenkins purchased the car for $4,800 with expenses. Later the car was renamed as Mormon Meteor, because the Ab Jenkins’ devotion to Mormons. Ab and his son Marvin used the car in many races and other automotive contests or for personal transportation as well as in parades in Salt Lake City, of which Ab Jenkins had been elected mayor. Jenkins sold the car in 1943. Through the years the Mormon Meteor passed through a few owners. Now fully restored, this caer is considered one of the most important Duesenbergs.
