1970 Pontiac GTO “The Judge”

MASSACHUSETTS, USA

Car Story

1970 Pontiac GTO “The Judge” wypatrzony w Tyngsboro w 2009 roku.

Nazwę zaczerpnięto z bardzo popularnego w tamtych czasach telewizyjnego kabaretu „Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In”. Popularny i powtarzany skecz polegał na tym, że koleś (Sammy Davis, Jr.) rapował jakiś krótki tekst a potem latał dookoła wykrzykując „Here come da judge ... here come da judge!”, zresztą popatrzcie sami:

Nazwę „The Judge” wykorzystano w umiejętny sposób w sloganach reklamowych: "All rise for The Judge" - Proszę wstać, Sędzia idzie, czy "The Judge can be bought" - Sędziego można kupić.

Pontiac GTO z 1970 roku w kolorze „Orbit Orange” (nasz Sędzia to „Bermuda Blue”) zagrał w kultowym filmie „Two-Lane Blacktop” (Jednojezdniówka, albo jak kto woli Droga Dwupasowa) z 1971 roku. W trakcie krótkiej wymiany zdań G.T.O. mówi do Kierowcy „If I wanted to bother, I could suck you right up my tailpipe” - Gdyby mi się chciało chcieć, to bym cię wessał w moją rurę wydechową.

1970 Pontiac GTO "The Judge" spotted in Tyngsboro, MA, in 2009.

"The Judge" appeared in 1969, it was the usual GTO in a particular configuration plus “The Judge” decals and spoiler.
The name was taken from very popular television show "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In". Hot and repeated skit on the show was a routine, where a comic figure (Sammy Davis, Jr.) rapped a short text and then ran around shouting "Here come da judge ... here come da judge!", check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hIcKkKID8k
Davis borrowed this piece from a man named Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham, "Here comes the Judge" was his signature routine, not known so far to white audience because of racial segregation. Today Markham is considered one of the forerunners of rap.

Advertisements used slogans like "All rise for The Judge", and "The Judge can be bought".

1970 Pontiac GTO in the "Orbit Orange" (our Judge is "Bermuda Blue") starred in the cult movie "Two-Lane Blacktop" from 1971. It was probably "The Judge", except it lacks "The Judge" decals. Warren Oates - the only professional actor in the film - plays a guy who drives a brand new Pontiac GTO and has a nickname "GTO". We don’t know his real name, or who he is, or where he goes, he probably doesn’t not know the last one either. G.T.O. takes hitchhikers and tells them some stories of strange content. The main characters of the film - “Driver” and “Mechanic” - see the GTO in the rearview mirror of their hotrod based on 1955 Chevrolet. G.T.O. overtakes them, then again, and so on through two states, and eventually they meet at a gas station. During a brief conversation G.T.O. says to Driver: "If  I wanted to bother, I could suck you right up my tailpipe".
