Harley Earl named the car with the name of Salt Flats in Utah. Many people were convinced there was one and only car. Really, two exemplars of this car were built. Both survive today. One of them belongs to the car collection of Joe Bortz.
The Bonneville Specials were mounted on a 100 inch wheelbase chassis. The first Bonneville was painted in reddy-browny color, the second was painted green. There was a canopy. Flip clear-up panels of the canopy opened automatically by touching a door handle. Two bucket seats were divided by a center console. The car was powered by a slant eight cylinder engine.
