The original Batmobile is built at the original dream car 1955 Lincoln Futura. The former idea was to renown the Futura from scratch but George Barris decided to transform her into the famous film vehicle. The main cause was the lack of time and the cost of renovation. The design was led by Herb Grasse which worked with Barris at the time.
Barris retained ownership of the car so he leased her to film producers for use in the series of Batman. During filming some several problems arose for example, the battery went dead, the tires blowed, the engine overheated. So Barris decided to replace the engine and transmission with another engine of Ford Galaxie.
The Batmobile was used in the film "It Started With A Kiss" (Debbie Reynolds and Glenn Ford).
The Batmobile survives today. Some time ago Barris sold the Batmobile at the Barrett-Jackson auction for $4,2 million.
